Ellen composed the original score and wrote the screenplay and lyrics for First Light (2020), an animated musical fantasy short directed by Amy Lee Ketchum which has garnered numerous awards. It was a winner at the 2021 Academy Award®-qualifying Ann Arbor Film Festival. It won Best Animation at the 2021 New Jersey International Film Festival. The film received Best Score at the 2020 Mediterranean Film Festival - Cannes, Best Animation at the 2020 Mediterranean Film Festival as well as a short animation award at the 2020 American Filmatic Arts Awards in Brooklyn. First Light was also an official selection of many Academy Award®-qualifying film festivals.

Additionally, Ellen wrote the screenplay, lyrics, and composed the music for Green Tree, a short musical film directed by Carla Dauden. The film was immediately very popular online, receiving hundreds of thousands of views.

As a playwright, Ellen has had the good fortune of working with Rachel Bay Jones who starred in her full-length drama, Roses on the Rocks, produced by Manhattan Theatre Source in New York City in 2009. Additionally, Ellen has had plays produced at The Marsh Theater in San Francisco CA, and at The Theatre Shoppe in Chicago, IL.
